ABOUT

For a long time, I thought the only thing I needed was to become a Mum.

HELLO THERE!

I'm Sam

I still wanted my baby more than anything. But somewhere along the way, I realised infertility hadn’t only changed whether I could become a Mum. It had changed me.

I’m Sam, a former midwife, fertility coach and someone who spent six years living through infertility, miscarriage, IVF and loss. But those labels only tell you part of the story.

For eight years, I worked as a midwife, caring for women and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. For six of those years, I was also struggling to become a Mum myself. I could finish a shift surrounded by pregnancy and new babies, then go home carrying a reality that felt completely different. I knew the science. I understood pregnancy. But knowing how it was supposed to happen didn’t make it happen for me, and it certainly didn’t prepare me for what infertility would feel like to live through.

How it all started...

Over time, trying to have a baby became woven into almost every part of my life, my thoughts, my relationships, my plans and how I felt about myself. Then my health forced me to stop. A virus partially paralysed my vocal cords and, for almost a year, I struggled with my voice. For someone who had spent years carrying so much quietly, losing my physical voice, how I couldn't express or communicate the same way I'd taken for granted my enitre lfe, made me begin thinking about all the ways I had stopped listening to myself too. I began turning some of the attention I had spent searching everywhere else back towards myself.

What I discovered didn’t make me want my baby any less. It helped me realise I didn’t have to lose sight of who I was while I waited. I realised it started with me. I began exploring mindset, self-awareness, relaxation and ways of reconnecting with myself — not as a way to guarantee pregnancy, but as a way to live through uncertainty without allowing it to consume every part of me.

Because I remember how lonely it could feel. I remember saying “I’m fine” when I wasn’t. I remember friendships changing, intimacy becoming complicated and feeling as though everyone else’s life was moving forward while mine was waiting for something I couldn’t control. Years later, after midwifery, infertility, motherhood, loss and everything I’ve learned since, one belief sits underneath all of my work: You shouldn’t have to wait for a positive pregnancy test before you start finding your way back to yourself. Your Life Matters Now.

Thank you for a great session yesterday, it was really helpful to make me question myself, done very gently but with enough pressure ....to keep me focused on the bits I was missing. It was really great and so were you. Much love xx
